Keynotes #11: Relax the Strings by Dr Ken McGill, Counselor and Psychotherapist in Plano, TX

“Keynotes” are my brief comments about life and recovery and are intended to provide insight, inspiration, wisdom or humor to your day.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light" - Matthew 11:28-30 (TNIV)
This is another favorite scripture, largely because Jesus calls us to seek rest when we need it. And some of us could really need it. What I mean by this is the Greek word for "rest" is Anapausis. You could literally see our English word "Pause" in it.
The word picture for Anapausis is of a person who is "relaxing the strings." I'm not a musician, but I imagine if the strings on a guitar are drawn too tight, then beautiful music will not be realized. So the strings need to be relaxed in order to recapture your harmony. Sometimes the strings are drawn so tight they can feel like a noose around one's neck. Relax. Relax the strings. Please.
What might pausing and relaxing the strings look like in your life? Where do you need to pause so you could experience rest, in order to regain your natural rhythm?
