"Choices...Find Yourself...in God (Part 2 of 2)" by Dr Ken McGill, Counselor and Therapist in Plano, TX

(An excerpt from Cultivating Love: Growing Character by Dr Ken McGill)
In light of the comments made on the “Choices – Find …Yourself” document, I would love for you to read and integrate the scripture below to inform your study and support the comments with the outcome being your continued growth and personal transformation (2 Timothy 3: 16-17).
The “SHAME-LESS” Air above Ground (“You will be like God…”) – In this area...
The Book of Jude reminds us of the consequences we will experience if we return to making “Bargains with Chaos.” In this area, we
…Do not Glorify God (Romans 1:21). …Tempt and Entice ourselves and misuse our Energy to conceive unhealthy if not downright evil behaviors (James 1:13-15). …Refuse to love the Truth (2 Thessalonians 2:10). …Are Lovers of Ourselves and Money, Boastful, Proud, Abusive, Disobedient to Family members, Ungrateful, Unholy, Without Love, Unforgiving, Slanderous, Without Self-Control, Brutal, Treacherous, Rash, Conceited, Lovers of Pleasure rather than being Lovers of God and the kicker is we have a “form” of Godliness (2 Timothy 3:2-5). …Are loud, undisciplined and live ignorantly (Proverbs 9:13). …Live Very Dangerously (Romans 3:12-18). …Know the Word of God and use it to tempt others (Matthew 4:1-11). …Mercilessly Traumatize others (Acts 19:13-16). …Engage in Immoral, Impure, Sensual, Idolatrous behaviors marked by Hatred, Jealousy, Fits of Anger, Selfish Ambition, Envy, Drunkenness, Carousing and things like these (Galatians 5:19-21). …“Soul Murder,” Engage in Strife, Deceit, Malice, Arrogance, Boasting and we invent ways of doing Evil (Romans 1:29-30). …Have corrupted Minds and Consciences (Titus 1:15).
In a moment of clarity, we remember that God has a plan for us, not to hurt us nor harm us but to give us a hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). We realize that the heart of the matter is this is a battle for our Human Heart. God’s Plan for us has always been to integrate His Heart into our Humanity (John 15:1-5, 8). We realize His power is made real in our hearts when we admit our “weaknesses” (2 Corinthians 12:9) and when we submit to Him who provides His Power to us abundantly (John 10:10-11). We realize we are not God but humans. In this area, we...
The Healthy Middle Ground of Life: OUR HUMANITY – In this area…
…Allow as best as we able for God to permeate the 7 Core areas of our Lives (Spiritual, Cognitive, Emotional, Physical/Biological, Sexual, Social/Relational and Environmental – Luke 10:25-28). …Love, because God first loved us (I John 4:19). …Renew our Minds (Romans 12: 1-2). …Appropriately grieve our losses and seek assistance from God in these critical times of need (James 4:9-10). …Engage in good self-care of our mind and our physical bodies (I Corinthians 3:16). …Avoid sexual immorality and learn to control our lusts and passions (I Thessalonians 3:4). …Don’t throw stones at others because we live in “Glass Houses” (John 8:1-11). …Become Agents of Change (Matthew 5:43-45). § …Pray Continuously (I Thessalonians 5:17). …Know the Truth and realize that by living in it we are Free (John 8:32). …Increase our Listening Skills, are Mindful with our Speech and Contain our Emotions (James 1:19). …Engage in edifying and empowering experiences in which Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control are produced to edify and empower others in our lives (Galatians 5:22-23). …Are excited by our spouse (Proverbs 5:18-19). …Practice Compassion, Kindness, Gentleness and Patience; We bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances we have against each other because we remember that Our God forgave us (Colossians 3:12-13). …Come to the assistance of others who need Grace because at one time, probably recently, we needed grace as well (Galatians 6:1-3). § …Ask for and expect God to create a new heart within us (Psalm 51:10). …Integrate God’s word in our Heart so we make right decisions (Psalm 119:11). …Strive to be Humble, Gentle and Patient (Ephesians 4: 2). …Have a balanced view on working for earthly and heavenly outcomes (Colossians 3:2). …Extinguish the opportunities to engage the maladaptive and addictive behaviors of our past (I Corinthians 6: 18-20). …Think, Speak and Do whatever is True, Noble, Right, Pure, Lovely, Admirable, Excellent, Praiseworthy and we endeavor to practice these in all our affairs (Philippians 4:8-9). …Love our Enemies and Pray for the ones who really get under our skin (Matthew 5:43-45). § …Confess our Sins, Pray for one another and in so doing facilitate God’s Healing power within us and to others we come into contact with (James 5:16). …Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit (Philippians 2:3). …Are aware that those we associate with could have a negative impact on our lives and behavior (I Corinthians 15:33). …Love our Partners and our Children (Ephesians 5:25 and 6:4). …Hate what is evil and cling to that which is good (Romans 12:9). …Realize that God can take our messes and miseries and convert them to our ministries (Romans 8:28). …Aim to be productive in all our encounters (John 15:4-5). …Seek to become skilled at Living (Proverbs 2:1-6). § …Love God and Our Neighbors because this is Life (Luke 10:25-28). …Realize and work a Spiritual Program of Recovery (Romans 8:37-39). …Are devoted to one another in brotherly love and our behavior is marked by honoring each other (Romans 12:10). …Pace ourselves in the race of life (Hebrews 12:3). …When it comes to cultivating our recovery and repairing our marriage we throw away the stopwatch and pull out the calendar (Romans 5:3-5; 8:18). …Realize we are more than the sum total of our maladaptive behaviors (I Peter 2:9-12). …Love others as a reflection of our growth (John 13:34-35). …Become Reconcilers (2 Corinthians 5: 17-21). …We walk in the Light (Psalm 56:13). …Attempt to make our life count for something by “finishing strong” (2 Timothy 4:7-8).
The Book of Proverbs reveals treacherous outcomes if we fail to integrate and learn from our choice(s) to seek false empowerment. “Evil comes to him who searches for it” (11:27); “The way of the wicked is like deep darkness, they do not know what makes them stumble” (4:19); “An evil man is snared by his own sin” (29:6). Being insensitive to these realities could lead to…
The “SHAME-FILLED” Toxic Dump below Ground – In this area…
…Hear the voice of the Devil, whose intent is the opposite of our Merciful God (Genesis 3:1, 4; John 8:43-44). …Experience physiological consequences when we are silent with our secrets (Psalms 32:1-5). …Have difficulty making sense of our behavior and experiences (Proverbs 4:19). …Fail to realize we need a Spiritual Program of Recovery (Matthew 12:43-45). …Are extremely apathetic (Ecclesiastes 1:2). …Give audience to the Self-Delusion (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12), and…We may go back “out there” (Genesis 19:17, 26). …Become Selfish and Indignant with God (Jonah 4:1-3) but…We may get a Spiritual Reality Check (Job 40:1-14). …May come to realize that God delivers us from our fears (Psalm 34:4). …May recall that God is close to the broken-hearted (Psalm 34:18). …May recall that God is a merciful God (Psalm 86:15-17; Psalm 6:2-4). …May genuinely call out to God for His Divine Assistance in this critical time of our lives (Psalm 38). …Humble ourselves before God, so He could lift us up (James 4:10). …May miss the Opportunity (2 Timothy 4:9) or…We may Come to Believe in a Power Greater than Ourselves (Titus 3:3-6).
Euphoric recall extinguishes the Light of the Original Hope, promised to us by God (2 Chronicles 7:14; Matthew 6:22-23). This may cause us to bypass Our Humanity again and opt for a Shameless encounter. However, even as the Original Deception/Lie of the Evil One (Genesis 3:1-5), is heard, Our God helps us to realize we have choices (1 Corinthians 10:12-13). So going forward what choices will you make?

"Choices...Find Yourself (Part 1 of 2)" by Dr Ken McGill, Counselor and Therapist in Plano, TX

(An excerpt from Cultivating Love: Growing Character by Dr Ken McGill)
I call this handout CHOICES, and in reading it I hope that you are simply reminded that you do have the ability to make healthy choices for yourself regarding the destination, the quality of life and to a large degree, the outcomes that you will create for yourself (which could be better if your Higher Power is invited into your choices/decision making processes – see below). I know that the complexity of your life experience is not to be simplified into a few brief pages, however, I do think the points below reveal that Shame, and how you choose to deal with the Shame in your life, usually determines where you will “find yourself” at the end of your choices.
It has been said that Toxic Shame is the fuel that drives addictive behavior. I agree with this; you will see in the rows below that Shame is a huge factor in most, if not all of our behavior as human beings, especially when it comes to our engagement in maladaptive and destructive behaviors to avoid the Shame experience. Toxic shame is an emotion and a behavior that serves to dehumanize our self and others. However, I also know that the experience of healthy shame reminds me of my limits as a human being and is an ever-present reminder that I need a merciful God to help me integrate and convert the shame experience into what could be a necessary and wonderful learning opportunity.   Where do you find yourself? What choices, just for today do you make?
The “SHAME-LESS” Air above Ground (“You will be like God…”) – In this area...
Self-Deception and Entitlement fuel our choice to enter into this “shame-less” and falsely empowered stance to be “A Power Greater than ourselves.” In this area, we…
Feel entitled to live life as if I’m the only one who matters. …Live like the rules don’t apply to Me, after all I’m God – and God makes the rules. …Feed my flesh to satisfy my desires. …Live with the false belief that we have “successfully” conquered our shame-filled experiences. …Act Angrily, Live Resentfully, Shame Willingly, Think Insensitively, Practice Hypocrisy and Traumatize others Thoughtlessly. …Wound others, Blame others, Prey upon others, Demean others, Lie to others, Screw others and remember, since I’m above all, I SHAME others! …Character assassinate. …Revel in Victimhood. …Live Self-Centeredly, Live Self-Righteously, Live Self-Indulgently and Live Self-Destructively.   …Dismiss the Reality of others as unimportant. …Listen Defensively. …Deceive, because this is what the Father of Lies taught us. …Create Chaos, Conflict and Confusion to fuel Sarcasm, Schisms and Calamity. …Harbor Grudges, Reek Impatience, Breed Resentments and Justify Condescension. …Escape Pain and Enhance Pleasure. …Never think there is an end to “This is MY Life.” Don’t want to get it (The Truth), Don’t want to hear it (Your Truth), Don’t want to see it (God’s Truth), and Don’t want to give up (Your Surrender). …Develop a nasty and boorish habit of being critical, cynical, and condemning of others.   Breakfast with the Narcissisms, Lunch with the Criticisms, Sup with the Hedonisms. …Sucker Punch others. …Develop a keen taste and diet for Fantasy-Flavored Cotton Candy (behaviors), not realizing it’ll “hit and run” through us like bricks momentarily. …Never see the stiletto of the Enemy until it cuts us, on his way to steal, kill and destroy us; our narcissistic and magical thinking prohibited us from integrating this reality.
Know that God loves us too much than to let us live in our grandiosity. Our self-imposed reign of “shamelessness” ends, usually with cost and consequence and always with humility. These moments of clarity reveal and remind us that we are not God, nor do we have to live a life ruled and fueled by inflicting or escaping our shame (Romans 8:1-2).
The Healthy Middle Ground of Life: OUR HUMANITY – In this area…
In this area, we…Remember we are not God. …Realize a mark of our maturity is to admit our spiritual imperfection. …Seek help from others. …Come to our own assistance. …Embrace reality at all costs in light of our knowledge and experiences with Shame. …Learn to share our reality with others via clear and direct communication. …Own our actions, make appropriate amends and live in consultation with others, our conscience and with our God. …Live Self-Contained, Grow in Self-Knowledge, we Self-Regulate and practice Self-Control. …Learn to value Family and Friends and find ways to repair and grow these relationships. …Consider how our words and actions will impact the Heart and Spirit of Others. …Realize that even the smallest incongruity with our behavior could trigger a trauma reaction in my loved ones. …Follow through on our commitments. …Learn to become a “Wounded Healer” versus an “Unhealed Wounder.” …Realize that rebuilding Trust occurs when my behaviors are consistent, predictable, reliable and are dependable. …Allow Healthy Shame to be a Welcome Teacher. …Become consistent in delivering the Therapeutic ingredients of Healing: Care, Attention, Help, and Service. …Live within our limits and become comfortable with this. …Work with our Therapist, Pastor, Sponsor, Spiritual Guide to identify the unhealthy Rules and Roles we need to revise for our own good. …Compose our “Bill Of Writes,” which is the new, inclusive and functional constitution that we will live by. …Co-Create with God a hope and a future, because this kneeling position facilitates creativity and opportunity. …Learn to Forgive, because God has forgiven us; Learn to patient with others, because God has been patient with us; Learn to Love, because God first loved us and because it is the best expression of our Humanity. …Avoid Shaming Karpman Triangle behaviors and engage in Equality and Empowerment behaviors.
Unfortunately for some of us, Humility, Humanity, Hearing from God and appropriately Helping our self could be hurriedly cast aside in our quest to rapidly escape (and sadly, not integrate) our shame, which leads to moments where we squander opportune moments to deal with our Spiritual Bankruptcy. These Un-Integrated Life Lessons, leads us back to the shame-filled world that at one time we wished to avoid.
The “SHAME-FILLED” Toxic Dump below Ground – In this area…
In this area we… Stand accused by Satan for attempting to be God. …Feel incredible shame from self-/other condemnation. …Feel worthless, hopeless, useless, stupid, damaged, inadequate, not good enough and maybe suicidal. …Replay condemning messages to assassinate our own character and progress. …Isolate, Self-Medicate, Commiserate and just plain Hate! …Experience shame attacks due to our recent involvement in traumatic encounters (with the Enemy and/or Ourselves). …Live in Self-Loathe, nurse Self-Pity, engage in Self-Recrimination but may hopefully Self-Reflect. …Burn our maps to the seemingly distant land right above this one: Our Humanity. …Hear the amplified voice of the Enemy demean us mercilessly, devalue any ray of hope, deflate any attempt to learn from our actions and deny that he even had a hand in any of this mess. … Breakfast with Dishonor, Lunch with Disgrace, Sup with Dis-Ease. …Allow our Hurt to churn into Resentment (“re+sentir” or “re-feeling the pain”). …Allow our Resentment (Self Pity + Anger) to crystallize into Bitterness (“bittar” or to “bite” others). …Allow our bitterness to metastasize into Entitlement which, if gone unchecked by all things human (the healthy middle ground) is usually when we elevate to the self-righteous and falsely empowered position to be a Higher Power (again, where we dump/act out our hurt and shame onto others by dehumanizing them and complete the Vicious Shame-Filled to Shame-Less Cycle, just like the Enemy wants us to do. …Plot our next acting out experience, due to not digging this scene (pun intended). …With this dramatic exit we begin our rapid, unnatural, compulsive, impulsive, illogical and shame-induced assent to escape our shame and humanity.
The Enemy wants you to bypass your humanity and go directly from being “shame-filled” to being a God of your own creation, who is above all and of course “shame-less.” This Shameless to Shame-filled cycle will repeat unless we make choices to live in the middle ground of Our Humanity.

"Recovery, Getting Refocused (Addiction, Part 2)" by Dr Ken McGill, Counselor and Psychotherapist in Plano, TX

(This excerpt is taken from Addiction Saboteurs – Slips, Relapses and My Course Correction in Cultivating Love: Finishing Strong by Dr Ken McGill)
What follows are some suggestions for you to consider implementing if you have been experiencing slips or relapses in your life.  Please, take what you can use and pass this along to someone who could use a hand - thanks Dr Ken McGill
Remember that RespectIntimacy and Knowledge originate in the Hebrew root YADA. Growing in knowledge of yourself and your behavior facilitates self-respect and recovery.
Exact examination of the problem(s) that caused your derailment is crucial. Getting “under the hood” quickly and looking at your head and heart is the correct move to make.
“Commence the repair work on your Levees,” that is, begin to mend the breaches in your 7 Core Areas (Spiritual, Cognitive, Emotional, Physical/Biological, Sexual, Social/Relational and Environmental) where you experienced boundary failure. First things First, and this is first.
O   Open up and tell friends and family exactly what you need and how they could support you. Taking personal responsibility for need fulfillment is yours, but it helps to have help.
V    “Veterans” in recovery (Sponsors, Spiritual Directors, Pastors, etc.) usually have great insight and practical advice that could be helpful to you regarding how to refocus your life. See them, spend time with them and listen to them.
Establishing how the addictive behavior is harmful to you and the systems in which you live is a good second step toward making deeper and lasting changes that solidify recovery.
R    Recovering people and Recovery meetings are crucial in your ability to stay sober. Having a healthy support network will prove to be beneficial and invaluable for your next 90 days.
Y    Your inquiry and asking questions that help you to gain information and knowledge about your life and then applying this knowledge constructively leads to beneficial changes.

G   Getting involved with the 12 Step Fellowship of your choice and attending as many meetings as possible in the 90 days after your relapse promotes connection with others and personal safety.
E    Establish the habit of calling a friend in recovery everyday. Whether you reach him/her or not, make sure you discuss or respond to the 4 areas in the sentence below this one:
T    “Tell them what you are thinkingtell them what you are feeling, tell them what you are thinking of doing, and tell them what you are going to do (to protect your sobriety).”
T    Take Personal Responsibility for your actions. If you request some form of behavioral change from others make sure you hold yourself accountable for changes you will make.
I     If you are called by a friend who needs you, remember to be encouraging, inspiring, gentle but honest (Galatians 6:1). Your nonjudgmental care and support will be helpful.
N   “Inventory” on a daily basis what your plans and needs are, what potential obstacles you may face and what strategies and approaches you will take to be safe in those situations.
G   Going to a Physician or a Psychiatrist for a health or medicine evaluation could prove to be invaluable, as your neurochemistry and your body may need special care to get on track.

Regular contact with therapists and groups is critical as you endeavor to remain sober. Engaging with them weekly for the 90 days after your relapse (and beyond) is crucial for your success.
Integrate what you have heard from God, your Spouse/Partner/Friends, from Counsel, from the Truth, so that insight and functional recovery tools are part of your new behaviors and outcomes.
F    Focus on solving your problem(s). Discuss with others what you think and feel about issues that are upsetting, and make sure you talk about some specific, measurable and concrete solutions that could resolve the problem(s).
O   Offering any “Olive Branch” behavior that facilitates safety, amends, collaboration, restitution, empathy, sincerity and peace will go a long way towards relationship repair if your relationships have been damaged.
C    Come up with an action plan to handle your urges, triggers and cravings. Include someone who you will talk with for insight, support, accountability on a daily/weekly basis.  Make sure you follow-up with them.
U   Understand how “Emotional Flooding” sabotages your ability to think and behave clearly, then implement strategies that help you to remain calm, honest, reflective, grounded and focused.
S    Spiritual Disciplines (Prayer, Meditation, Fellowship, Silence, Solitude, Sacrifice, Study, Confession, Service) are always helpful and useful in times like these to help re-focus your life.
E    Ego States and Victim, Rescuer and Persecutor are stances that prohibit you from taking Responsibility, Brainstorming Options and Negotiating “win-win” outcomes for yourself.
D   Discipline yourself to hear from God, to hear what you need to hear, then say what you need say with others, and do what you need to do, to experience health and self-efficacy.
Thanks again for considering these suggestions.  May God bless you as you get back on the road to recovery!

"An Autopsy of My Relapse (Addiction, Part 1)" by Dr Ken McGill, Counselor and Psychotherapist in Plano, TX

(This excerpt is taken from Addiction Saboteurs – Slips, Relapses and My Course Correction in Cultivating Love: Finishing Strong by Dr Ken McGill)
The purpose of this assignment is to identify the thoughts, feelings, behavior and situations that may arise in your life that could lead to a Slip or a Relapse. A Slip (often called a “Lapse”) is a momentary, often “unplanned” or unintended return to the addictive behavior that you have worked so hard to depart. The difference between a Slip and a Relapse is that with a Slip, you immediately return to the thinking, behaviors, principles, choices, relationships and life(style) which evidence your recovery. You have slipped, but you have “course corrected,” regained your balance and you return to working your program and living in recovery.
On the other hand, a Relapse, is a return to the addictive behavior and lifestyle that you had left. A relapse could last for days, weeks, or months, as opposed to the momentary and often, overnight Slip. With a Relapse, you have fallen down, and in some respect, refuse to “get up,” and return to your life in recovery.
A Relapse is often preceded by a return to seeing, and doing things from a younger ego state, rather than operating from your healthier, Functional Adult Ego state, which is that part of you that adequately, and appropriately sizes up problems and implements solutions that are helpful to you. Often, it is the Adapted Adolescent Ego State within you, that suggests thinking errors (cognitive distortions) and behaviors to defend your wounded ego (via ego defenses). Thinking and operating in this younger ego state for too long “validates” that the old ways of viewing and dealing with problems is an acceptable alternative for you to return to. Looking at, and answering the questions in the “An Autopsy of My Relapses” exercise will assist you to understand how you may have allowed unprocessed thoughts and feelings about yourself and your relationship(s) to facilitate thinking and behaviors which led to your relapse. Once you have identified what went wrong, you have the opportunity to “repair the walls of the levee,” where the “stinking thinking” leaked into your life. If repair and recovery is going to happen, the walls must be rebuilt.
Read through the tools in this section and come to your own assistance, but also, seek and ask for the assistance of others, as you will need their experience, strength and hope to illuminate and correct where your boundaries have been compromised. Consider who are the “Teammates” that you will add to your team, so that you are victorious over skirmishes and battles that arise in mind and in your life. Determine the role that you will ask, and need them to play in your life so that you both advance toward the goal line(s) in your lives. Finally, allow God to speak deeply and richly into your life, through His word and through others, to illuminate how you could be successful in dealing with Slips and course correcting to avert Relapses.
An “Autopsy” of My Relapse
A   A Relapse occurs when there is a breach in one or more of your 7 Core Areas. You are vulnerable to relapse if you are not Spiritually, Cognitively, Emotionally and Socially “fit.”
N   “Insight” regarding your urges, triggers and cravings and how you managed or mismanaged them will serve you well. Take time to understand your 7 Core Areas.
A   And what were the specific urges, triggers and cravings that you had, in the 7 Core Areas of your life? What were your thoughts, feelings and behaviors that fueled your relapse?
U   Unpack and examine the encounters you had, the issues you were faced with, the resentment(s) you carried, the thoughts you denied, the feelings you suppressed for insight.
T    Troubled “Ego States” (Your Adolescent and Child Ego States) need examination, as relapse occurs when your “Little Professor” Ego State deems relapse behavior is acceptable for solving problems.
O   Obsessing about re-engaging in the addictive behavior without extinguishing those thoughts puts you in the Preoccupation stage of the addictive cycle. Were you obsessing about your "drug of choice?"
P    People you hung out with, Places you used to frequent and Things you used to do were probably involved with the relapse. Self-Delusion is thinking you can still retain them.
Stashes of content, paraphernalia, and unbridled “euphoric recall” experiences where fantasy is allowed to run amok is like smoking at a gas station. Were these on your radar?
Y   Yelling, Name Calling and other forms of Verbal or Physical Abuse facilitate intimidation, increase alienation, and stir retaliation. Were these actions part of your relapse process?
O   Overconfidence about being able to handle your addiction by yourself and not choosing to “live in consultation” with others could lead to relapse. Were you too audacious, brash, isolating and alone?
F    Failing to follow through on responsibilities and commitments translates into a lack of self-care, arrogance, isolation, fear and other emotions that could ignite thinking about relapse.
M  Movement around the Karpman Triangle generates chaotic Victim, Persecutor and Rescuer stances ratified by your Little Professor Ego State. If not interrupted, a potential relapse could occur.
Y   Your unplanned response to Emotional Flooding episodes ignites a “fight, flight or freeze” anxiety response. Not having a "fire drill" plan in place to return to clear thinking invites relapse.
R   Routines that change too quickly could create distress, especially if there is no plan in place to deal with the consequences of the changes. Where there unplanned stressors that hit too rapidly in your life?
Examining your Moods, such as, have you been too Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired? What have you noticed about yourself that could have been a precursor to relapse?
L    Look to see if there is someone in any of your systems (Home, Work, Family of Origin, Old Friends, etc.) who want you to be as sick as they are and may be sabotaging your recovery.
A   Are there unresolved Resentments that you nursed, which were not discussed, weighed you down, causing you to seek some release via passive-aggressive and acting out behaviors?
P    Pride, Narcissism and being a Power Greater than Yourself feeds entitled behavior where you are apt to think the rules don’t apply to you…was this a factor with your relapse?
S    Stinking Thinking means the employment of Rationalization (“Rational Lies”), Justification, Minimization, and other Ego Defenses will be used and usually proceed a relapse.
E    Escaping Pain by Engaging in Pleasure oriented behaviors that “help” you to momentarily avoid your pain, suffering and reality could be causal factors. Was this true with you?
S    Somehow, forgetting how bad it used to be and thinking you could go back for another run and avoid all of the painful consequences connected to past using episodes crept in.
Please review the next post "Recovery, Getting Refocused" (Addiction Part 2) for some suggestions to help you to get back on track. Please retweet or pass this along to others if you think it could help them - thanks, Dr McGill.
